These Professional Standards are approved and <br />adopted by the respective Boards of the CACP and the County Sheriffs of Colorado. <br />The accreditation process includes the department ensuring all policies and <br />procedures meet these standards; as well as assessors asking questions of agency <br />personnel about the implementation of particular standards; and verification made <br />through viewing a facility, condition, activity, or objective required by a standard. <br />Recommendations: Strategies and Initiatives <br />LPD developed a number of strategies to address the provision of emergency and non- <br />emergency services which include: <br />Adjust service delivery to meet new community expectations, which include: <br />Increase in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Issues <br />Investigating Beyond the Obvious <br />Increase in the Use of Technology <br />This shall all occur while maintaining basic public safety. Sample initiatives include <br />evaluations of additional options to handle requests for service; and phasing -in <br />additional sworn officers and civilian staff over five years to provide more time for <br />community policing activities and proactive enforcement. <br />Provide additional weaponry to assist officers in staying safe. Weapons are to <br />include: shotguns, less lethal shotguns, and rifles. These weapons are the <br />contemporary standard for many law enforcement agencies. <br />Refine a "Community Policing" approach and develop future strategies to further <br />support neighborhoods and businesses; increase the use of alternative modes of <br />transportation, such as foot and bicycle patrols, as a community policing strategy to <br />monitor traffic, identify safety issues, and improve enforcement capabilities. <br />b Continue to plan and develop safe procedures for the increasing number of special <br />events, and maintain commercial crime prevention efforts through education, <br />enforcement, and investigation. <br />Page 2 Executive Summary <br />
