RESOLUTION NO. 34 <br />SERIES 2017 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE IN <br />SUPPORT OF THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT <br />WHEREAS, consensus exists among the world's leading climate scientists that <br />global warming caused by emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities is a <br />significant contributor to global warming , and <br />WHEREAS, documented impacts of global warming include but are not limited to <br />increased occurrences of extreme weather events (e g droughts and floods) and <br />adverse impacts on ecosystems, demographic patterns and economic value chains, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Louisville has demonstrated significant public support of <br />sustainability efforts as a priority for City government, and <br />WHEREAS, responding to climate change provides communities of all sizes an <br />opportunity to provide important leadership in helping support environmental <br />sustainability efforts including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and <br />WHEREAS, Louisville, CO has historically demonstrated and will continue to <br />maintain leadership in environmental stewardship through the continuing efforts to <br />develop innovative effective, and cost-effective environmental sustainability programs <br />and policies and implement them in its capital projects and operations and <br />WHEREAS, Louisville, CO, also seeks to encourage and incentivize its residents <br />and corporate citizens to voluntarily develop their own environmental sustainability <br />programs and policies and implement them in their homes and workplaces, <br />respectively <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF LOUISVILLE: <br />1 Commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through continued <br />implementation of its Sustainability Action Plan, and <br />2 Joins other US cities in adopting and supporting the goals of the Paris Climate <br />Agreement, <br />3 Commits to exploring the potential benefits and costs of adopting policies and <br />programs that promote the long-term goal of greenhouse gas emission <br />reductions while maximizing economic and social benefits of such actions, <br />Resolution No 34, Series 2017 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
