Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board
Agenda
May 17, 2017
Page 2 of 4
6:45-7:30pm:
II. Partners in Energy Update: Mark Persichetti and Mr. Dave Hatchimonji provided
the update for residential Partners in Energy (PIE) program. Dave Szabados stated
there was a meeting for the business PIE program earlier today. The first call of the
residential PIE occurred in late April. The primary discussion points for the
residential meeting were:
• A review of the 90 -day work plan;
• Who on the conference call could aid with different programs;
• Work on the school packets that include energy and water efficient items to get
the students excited about applying sustainability measures to their homes;
• How to successfully reach low income and older residents to take advantage of
the discounts the Xcel will offer with the PIE program;
• A copy of the PIE residential flyer will be sent to the board for review; and
• There was a discussion of what the contact point for this program within
Louisville should be.
III. Kurt Kower — Public Works Update: Mr. Kurt Kower and the LSAB discussed:
• Areas where the Public Works in charge including transportation, water, solid
waste, etc.:
• Transportation:
• There is money in the next budget to prepare a Transportation Master Plan.
• When repaving and painting occurs, the city is including bike lanes for travel
when safe.
• Discussed options for multi -modal transportation. The youth advisory board is
posting way finding signs around town.
• Solid Waste Hauler Contract:
• The goal of LSAB is to reduce waste and increase recycling and compost.
LSAB asked how it can participate in this process. Kurt says there are two
ways to address this (1) participation along with the HOAs and business in the
RFP; and (2) participation in passing a city ordinance to mandate recycling or
compost services.
• City performed a Waste Stream Composition Study that showed that single
family homes are doing a good job but could improve in composting. The
waste study included sorting waste collected from the northern residential
areas of Louisville. Of the waste sorted, 17% could have been diverted from
the landfill.
• City is exploring options for the new waste hauling agreement including having
all the costs to the consumer including in the trash fee and composting and
recycling would be free.
• Sustainability Plan
• Kurt discussed items in the plan that are stretches to achieve or will have to be
looked at in the future, vs those that could be interacted in the short term.
• Sustainability Specialist: To start the person will work 50% on 2 -year work
plan, 10% on data analysis / metrics and increase work on program
development.
IV. Street Faire Update: Street Faire will be 8 Fridays this year. Mark Persichetti
asked for assistance on a few nights to help Teens for Oceans and the Monarch
Band with the zero -waste collection program at the Faire.
