Library Board of Trustees
Meeting Minutes—DRAFT
May 11, 2017
4) Farmers' Market
The Board will continue its participation at some Farmers' Markets this summer and will
again highlight Makerspace programs and hand out Make -and -Take kits prepared by
Library staff. The schedule is not set, but there will be a presence at the June 3 market
to take advantage of increased foot traffic from the Taste of Louisville event. The Board
will also contact the Library Foundation to see if they will handle a used book sale.
6) Staff luncheon
The luncheon will be held on May 24. The menu will include salads, breads, drinks, and
desserts. Jeannie prepared a sign-up sheet for Board members. Jeannie will also coordinate
food and set-up at the Library.
7) Read, Baby, Read (RBR) program for newborns at Avista
Beth noted that she had been in contact with Kelsey Clark of `Reach Out and Read', a 501(c)(3)
serving children six months to five years. Kelsey expressed interest in partnering with the
Library Foundation to reach the newborn to five months age group. Although Kelsey's
organization has already received a grant for a pilot program targeting this group, and they
may not be able to include the RBR program this time, it's possible RBR may fit in to a future
funding cycle. Kelsey has suggested that she, someone from Avista, and a member each from
the Foundation and Library Board meet to discuss a possible plan. She suggested the second
week of July. Beth will maintain contact with Kelsey and provide information to both the
Foundation and Library Board.
IX. Director's Report
Beth reported the following:
• Meeting Room Tables
o New tables were delivered on May 11. The new tables have flip tops, locking casters, and are
much easier to move and store.
• Summer Reading Program
o Preparations are well underway including school visits scheduled in May. Teen Summer Squad
volunteers will assist with Children's registration and various support activities related to
programs. Online registration is being set up and program packets have been designed and
will be in production soon.
o Sean Lamborne, the Business Librarian, has received $1700 in donations and sponsorship
commitments from local businesses, which will be used for programs and prizes.
o The Library is also partnering with Boulder Valley School District this year as part of the
summer school program at Monarch K-8. A Superior school may also participate.
• On The Same Page (OTSP)
o The program begins on June 1 with the title announcement. Book discussions and activities
are scheduled for September and October.
X. Agenda Items for Next Meeting: July 6, 2017
1) In addition to regular agenda items, the following will be included:
a) Outreach projects
b) Little Libraries schedule
XI. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50pm.
