I am skimming through the
resolution which allows these grants in Series 2012. Does it allow grants for demolition?
Trice says we have done grants for demolition in the past. Staff interpreted this as an
extraordinary circumstance because of the insensitive addition done in 1972 and the ability to
uncover the north wall.
Koertje says the extraordinary circumstances relate to exceeding grant amounts, not to allow
purposes not outlined in the resolution. I think the resolution states that the grants are restricted
to preservation and restoration purposes, not demolition.
Trice says Staff's interpretation is this is restoring the form of the Center for the Arts building by
removing the building from the north wall.
Dickinson says I see it as a restoration by demolition. We are not demolishing the Arts Center
but the later addition that detracts from the exterior wall.
Cyndi Thomas asks about the new construction $75,000 to match the demolition of the
$75,000. What would be the purpose?
Trice says the new construction is the maximum amount of $75,000, but we allow for new
construction to build the new pool house building.
