Louisville <br />COLORADO • S1NC I N <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />AGENDA ITEM 11 <br />SUBJECT: <br />DATE: <br />PRESENTATION – MUSEUM CONCEPTUAL PLAN UPDATE <br />JULY 25, 2017 <br />PRESENTED BY: BETH BARRETT, DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY AND MUSEUM <br />SERVICES <br />SUMMARY: <br />The 2017 CIP budget includes funding to prepare a conceptual design for Louisville's <br />Historical Museum campus, focusing on the proposal to add a new building on the empty lot <br />between the existing Jacoe and Tomeo buildings. Following the issuance of an RFP for <br />architectural design services, staff selected Roybal Corporation Architects of Denver to <br />develop concepts based on the recommendations of the Museum Campus Master Plan and <br />Needs Assessment. <br />Using the standards for new construction set forth in the Historic Preservation chapter of <br />Louisville's Municipal Code, Roybal developed their design concepts and presented them at <br />a public open house on June 14, 2017 and at a joint meeting of the Historic Preservation <br />(HPC) and Historical Commissions (HC) on June 28, 2017. <br />The designs provide space for requested elements, including <br />ADA -compliant restrooms <br />Classroom/public meeting space <br />A Visitor Center component <br />Expanded display space <br />Collection storage using compact shelving <br />Staff work space <br />Responding to public comments, Roybal developed an additional conceptual idea that is <br />shown in the last few slides of the attached presentation. This is a preliminary sketch and <br />additional design work will occur prior to the next open house to take place in September. <br />Mike and Ron Roybal along with Trevor Hill of Roybal Corporation Architects will be on <br />hand to discuss their plans and to answer Council's questions. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />No fiscal impact at this time. Any future funding needed will follow established practices. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Discussion. <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />1.
