City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />January 24, 2017 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />Craig Eicher and Tami Gunderzik said Xcel wants to assist communities in <br />creating and implementing energy action plans. They reviewed the presentation <br />in the packet. Xcel believes this plan will better develop new resources to fit <br />community needs, save energy and advance clean energy goals, strengthen <br />relationships with the community. <br />Benefits to the City of Louisville: <br />• Energy action plan with no cost to community <br />• Community energy data to see baseline performance and assist in <br />tracking implementation success <br />• Economic development by leveraging utility programs to drive <br />improvements and energy savings <br />• Engaging residents and businesses in common goal <br />• Tools and resources to develop and execute an energy action plan <br />Plan development included a detailed baseline, vision, focus areas, draft goals, <br />divergent strategies, convergent strategies, goal refinement, action planning, <br />plan finalization and launch. <br />The Vision: The City of Louisville, in collaboration with residents and businesses <br />encourages energy efficiency and renewable energy, leveraging resources and <br />benefitting our economic vitality, environmental health and community well-being. <br />The goals: <br />• 1% annual total energy use reduction <br />• Savings goals per focus area strategy <br />As plan moves forward, Szabados would like to do an energy audit of police <br />station and look at energy improvements to implement during Rec Center <br />expansion. <br />Members of public would like to see specific goals for reducing greenhouse <br />gases. <br />Council and Xcel representatives discussed commercial vs. residential energy <br />usage. Future initiatives were discussed. Additional resources may be necessary <br />and that would be discussion for staff and Council. <br />Council members were supportive of the project and thanked Facilities Manager <br />Szabados and Xcel representatives Eicher, Merrigan and Gunderzik for their <br />work. <br />
