Five parking sites has been selected <br />t:o date. The improvements to those sites <br />i.n terms of both the acquisition and actual <br />improvements to the parking lots have been <br />gut out for bid and they expect that the <br />work will be initiated soon. Those im- <br />provements are being funded from city <br />monies that have already been allocated. <br />which would result in 77 additional parking <br />~cpaces in the downtown area. It was very <br />refreshing for him to be a part of the <br />'T'ask Force in terms of the overall parti- <br />cipation of the merchants and property <br />owners in the downtown area, which is a <br />critical issue to the downtown project. <br />Financing of the Project N[r. Rogers then spoke to the financing <br />aspect of the project. The numbers as pro- <br />posed to Council were not refined; however <br />the Task Force felt that the ranges that <br />were presented will be the numbers used <br />when they are put out to bid. <br />The City has previously spent. approximately <br />$167,000 for downtown public improvements, <br />i.. e. underground improvements, street <br />improvements, parking acquisition, and <br />Barking lot improvements. The 1984 fiscal <br />budget included an additional $200,000 <br />which is being spent primarily for parking, <br />a~esign guidelines, etc. The Task Force <br />was requesting Council consider funding <br />a~n additional $200,000 in the 1985 budget <br />t:o complete the improvements and commit- <br />ments from the City. <br />Business Commitment to the NIr. Rogers stated that it would not be <br />Downtown Project Bair to come before Council as a represen- <br />tative of the business community without <br />Explaining what hopefully the business and <br />cleneral public's commitment is going to <br />be for the total downtown project. He <br />reiterated that the figures were estimates <br />at this time, without having the time or <br />Expertise in terms of developing very firm <br />numbers. <br />A second feature that the Task Force was <br />recommending to Council was that a Special <br />Improvement District be completed within <br />t:he confines of the downtown area to raise <br />
