7/17/84 Page -2-
ville Fire Protection District was allotted
a 2'-.2 acre site. Since that time the zoning
has changed; the major thoroughfares have
changed; and the entire area has changed shape.
Because of these major changes the site allotted
to them was no longer a suitable site for a
Fire: Station. It provides no good ingress for
firemen responding to the station, and bad
egress for emergency vehicles leaving the area.
It :is also surrounded by high density resi-
dential area. Also in the future there are
plans for senior citizen housing in the area.
In the interim the LFPD has located another
site more suitable for the Fire Station, which
is :Located on a major thoroughfare and pro-
vides excellent ingress and egress for the
Fire Department as well as St. Anthony's
helicopter for a landing site. The site is
located on the northwest corner of the proposed
recreation center property. They had met
with Mr. Wurl, Mr. Rupp and Mr. Hioco regard-
ing the relocation of the site and it didn't
look as though there would be a problem with
the planning of the recreation site. Mr.
Ross was requesting Mayor and Council's support
of the relocation of the Fire Station site
to the area on Via Appia; also was requesting
support for the St. Anthony's Flight helicopter
pad at that site.
Dan Reich, Asst. Director Mr. Reich stated that they supported the new site
Flight Operations, St. location for the sub fire station in order to
Anthony Hospital Sustems better facilitate the use of any emergency
medical helicopter service. They had.::: pro-
posed to the Louisville Board of Directors
sometime ago the actual placement of a Flight
for Life helicopter at the sub-station on a
regular basis . They--and the LFPD felt this would
best suit the needs not only for Louisville
but for the Boulder County area as well. This
could be 1,2, or 3 days a week 8-10 hours a
day depending on the statistical information
on the utilization of emergency medical services.
He felt this new site location would better
accomodate the operation of any helicopter
taking off and landing on a regular basis.
It is more remote than the original site from
they power lines and further away from resi-
denital areas for noise abatement; also
it was his understanding that the surrounding
development would be more commercial and
would have a lesser impact on the community.
