Louisville City Council Meeting <br />June 1, 2004 <br />Page 2 of 12 <br /> <br />C <br /> <br />Authorization to Negotiate a Change Order with Aggregate Industries <br />for South 88th Street and Campus Drive Improvements <br />Award Bid for Furniture for the Police & Municipal Court Building to <br />Boulder Commercial Interiors <br />Award Bid for Library Self Check-out System to 3M Company <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON <br /> THE AGENDA <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk reported on the passing of a long-time Louisville resident Artys Galligar. <br />Galligar was an active member of the community, who ran for Louisville City Council <br />and was vice president of the Louisville Senior Center Board of Directors. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk asked at a future meeting, the Council recognize Monarch High School <br />Principal Dr. Bill Johnson, and Louisville Middle School Principal Janice Christie who <br />are retiring this year. <br /> <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> <br />RECOGNITION - MONARCH HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk explained with Monarch High School's first graduating class, the City of <br />Louisville established an annual scholarship. The City of Louisville Scholarship was <br />created to acknowledge and inspire community and civic involvement. Criteria for the <br />scholarship includes the following: Louisville residency; attendance of Louisville school <br />for at least the last 2 years; a minimum GPA of 2.5; civic involvement and/or <br />employment with the City of Louisville. Each candidate was required to write a one- <br />page essay. Ten applications were received for the two $ !,000 scholarships. Mayor Sisk <br />and Councilors Van Pelt and Levihn reviewed the applications. All identifying <br />information was stricken from the applications to promote a fair and impartial review. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk announced the 2004 City of Louisville Monarch High School Scholarships <br />were awarded to Tamara Sheldon, who will be attending the Massachusetts Institute of <br />Technology, and John Kyle Miranda who will attend Pennsylvania State University. He <br />asked the recipients to tell the Council and the public about themselves. <br /> <br />Miranda stated he volunteered for Avista Hospital for three years and is a member of the <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br /> <br />
