Louisville City Council Meeting <br />August 3, 2004 <br />Page 4 of 5 <br /> <br />WEST NILE VIRUS UPDATE <br /> <br />Land Management Director Cindy Lair updated Council on the West Nile Virus and <br />mosquito control in Louisville. She stated most of the cases of West Nile Virus are <br />occurring on the western slope of the state. She noted between Louisville and Superior <br />there have been mosquitoes, which tested positive for West Nile Virus, and spraying for <br />mosquitoes was conducted at the Coal Creek Golf Course. She reminded the public to be <br />vigilant in using repellants containing DEET and to wear protective clothing when <br />outdoors. <br /> <br />CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT <br /> <br />City Attorney Light reported the T & T Bennett lawsuit was dismissed. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORT <br /> <br />City Manager Bill Simmons requested staff reports. <br /> <br />Deputy City Manager Julie Boyd reported on capital projects, including the new library; <br />the occupancy of the new police/court facility; and the Highway 42 Project. Public <br />Works Director Tom Phare also reported on the Highway 42 Project. <br /> <br />Deputy City Manager Boyd also updated Council on the needs assessment for the City <br />Hall building and the parking spaces available on the south side of the City Hall building. <br />Parking spaces directly south of the building will be designated for City vehicles and the <br />18 spaces behind Land Management will be reserved for 2-hour public parking. <br /> <br />City Clerk Nancy Varra reported a completed citizen's initiative petition proposing <br /> rd <br />Louisville Charter amendments, was submitted on Tuesday, August 3 . Charter <br />amendments require signatures from 10% of the registered voters to refer an initiative to <br />a special election. She noted a total of 1,295 signatures are required. The City Clerk has <br />15 days to verify the signatures contained on the petitions. <br /> <br />City Attomey Sam Light explained if the petitions contain sufficient signatures, Council <br />will set the ballot title. <br /> <br />City Manager Bill Simmons reported that discussions continue between Comcast Cable <br />TV and the citizen group scheduling programs for the public access channel. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
