RESOLUTION NO. 68 <br />SERIES, 2017 <br />A RESOLUTION DECLARING SUPPORT FOR FIRST RESPONDERS TO TRAFFIC <br />CRASHES AND INCIDENTS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITIES, REGION AND STATE; <br />AND URGING THE PUBLIC TO DRIVE SAFELY, ADHERE TO TRAFFIC LAWS, AND <br />RESPECT THE LIVES OF RESPONDERS WHO SAFEGUARD THOSE AT THE <br />SCENE OFA CRASH <br />WHEREAS, first responders include law enforcement, fire, rescue, medical, <br />towing and other front-line personnel; and <br />WHEREAS, recent fatalities among first responders in the Denver region have <br />raised public awareness of the danger to which first responders at a crash or traffic <br />incident scene are subjected while safeguarding the well-being of others, and <br />WHEREAS, at the direction of Governor Hickenlooper, the Colorado State Patrol <br />recently convened a task force to review first responder safety and has launched its <br />"One Scene. One Culture. Save Lives." campaign; and <br />WHEREAS, annual roadway fatalities in the Denver region increased by 40 <br />percent between 2014 and 2016; and <br />WHEREAS, many of the region's residents will soon travel between communities <br />and states for holiday visits to relatives and friends, using roadways they don't <br />frequently travel and encountering unpredictable weather, further highlighting the <br />importance of traffic safety and the role of first responders <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF LOUISVILLE, COLORADO: <br />Section 1. The City hereby declares support for first responders, and urges <br />the public to respect their lives by driving safely and knowing the State of Colorado's <br />Move Over law. <br />PASSED AND ADOPTED this 28th da of November, 2017. <br />ATTEST. <br />Robert P.
