Business Retention and Development Committee <br />Meeting Minutes <br />November 6, 2017 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />V. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA: <br />None. <br />VI. BUSINESS MATTERS OF THE COMMITTEE: <br />1. Economic Development Strategy / Mission Statement Discussion: Aaron <br />DeJong lead discussion of Louisville Staff's request for the BRaD Committee to <br />continue to develop / refine its Mission Statement and Strategy for evaluation of <br />City policies and decisions as they relate to economic development topics. Mr. <br />DeJong referred to the attached "BRAD Committee Strategy Discussion" report <br />dated November 6 and associated `Economic Vitality Program' and `Economic <br />Development Strategy Statements'. Extensive discussion ensued regarding the <br />Goals, Objectives and Economic Strategy Statements, including whether elements <br />of same were unduly tactical for Mission Statement / Strategy Statement purposes. <br />Committee members provided broad feedback to Mr. DeJong and Staff for <br />generation of further draft for consideration, including questions regarding <br />identification / determination of what is the Louisville `brand', and how to assess / <br />determine the desired balance of business / employment / redevelopment <br />supportive of existing and future Louisville business and consistent with broader <br />Louisville community desires. Committee agreed to continue discussion of this <br />topic at the next BRaD meeting. <br />2. City Fees Comparison. Mr. DeJong presented a report regarding average city <br />utility rates, water / sewer / storm tap and system development fees, and monthly <br />utility fee increases. Committee discussed variances noted, concluding that <br />Louisville appears to have fees competitive with its neighboring communities. <br />VII. Retention Visits. Mr. DeJong reviewed for the Committee retention visits to <br />Aragon Elastomers and Vic's Coffee. <br />VIII. ED Update. Mr. DeJong provided an update on recent Louisville business / <br />economic events of note as outlined in the `Economic Development Update' <br />provided in the Committee agenda packet. <br />IX. REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS. <br />- Committee Member Todd Budin distributed to the Committee (copy attached) a <br />summary of the responses to the Louisville Business e-mail Survey Questions, <br />and provided his assessment of insights provided by the responses. Mr. Budin <br />noted that the Response Summary is preliminary, and that a more formal <br />Survey Report would be presented to the Committee at the next meeting. <br />
