There was a Poo Pickup event at the Davidson Mesa Dog Off -leash Area
(DOLA). 98 people volunteered. The majority of the volunteers were there primarily to
exercise their dogs, but were happy to participate. Aubrey, the Open Space Ranger,
coordinated the event. She advertised it, and then worked the event to make it fun; she
gave out awards and dog treats. She reported that the volunteers had good attitudes,
and 73 pounds of dog waste were collected. Laura asked what day of the week this
event was held, since the previous event was held on a Friday night and didn't have
nearly the turn -out. Ember replied that it was held on a Saturday.
Ember shared an email she received from DOLA users who want to come to the
December meeting and participate. They stressed that they are interested in helping
resolve the trash and dog waste issues at the DOLA and offered to volunteer their time
and contacts with other users.
Jim asked about The Poo Fairy campaign and was told that the signs are on
order.
B. Staff estimates that Open Space has clocked over 1076 volunteer hours in
2017 so far.
