PAGE2OF3 • The City of Louisville Open Space Mission is "To conserve and restore open space through land acquisition and management for the protection of natural and cultural resources and provide opportunities for education, volunteering and appropriate passive recreation." • Per City Ordinance 1483, Sec. 4.04.010: In the use of City Open Space, it is unlawful for any person to: M. Bring or maintain any dog or other animal on an Open Space, unless such dog or other animal is kept at all times on a leash not to exceed 15 feet in length and is under the physical control of its owner or custodian. The only exception to leash control on City Open Space is designated and signed "dog off -leash" areas where dogs may be off -leash only in accordance with the rules and regulations application to such dog off -leash area. Possible topics and recommendations may include: Property Management • Implementing dog park and off -leash area management best practices • Education about and stricter enforcement of City Ordinances regarding dogs off - leash and waste removal on all City Open Space and Parks properties • Proactively temporarily closing the Davidson Mesa Dog Off -leash Area in response to inclement weather or to prevent health, safety, or property management issues on the property in order to preserve and protect the natural environment and ecosystems Property Acquisition and Facility Development • Joint advisory board support for the acquisition of new park lands for dog park purposes near Davidson Mesa and in underserved neighborhoods • Conversion of under-utilized park land to dog park purposes and facilities CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
