SINCE 1878
901 Parkview, Louisville, Colorado
Legal Description: Lots 1-3, Block 2, Murphy Place
Year of Construction: 1939
Summary:This house in the Frenchtown neighborhood is associated with two families. Martha
Hernu Dirkes, of French heritage, lived in the house with her husband, Edward. In 1956, they
were followed as owners by members of the Ferarese family, who owned the house for nearly
fifty years.
History of Murphy Place Subdivision
Peter F. Murphy platted the subdivision of Murphy Place in 1907. He did so as President of the
Louisville Realty & Securities Company.
Earliest Ownership of Lots,to 1939
In 1907, the same year in which Murphy Place was platted, the developer sold Lots 1-3 of Block
2 to Mary Weaver. The next year, she purchased Lots 4-6 on the same block.
The following excerpt of the 1909 Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville indicates why these lots
were not built on immediately. The blue rectangle indicates the location of what is now 901
Parkview.Just to the north of the parcel was the railroad spur going to the Acme Mine, which is
shown on the left. Just north of the tracks, and in the middle of Main Street in the vicinity of
where the Elks Club is now located at 525 Main, was the mine dump for the Acme Mine. The
mine closed in 1928 and the mine dump was brought down and the area leveled in 1933.
1
