The next photo, from the Daily Camera, shows Joe's Fruit Store in 1978 with Joe and <br />Rose D'Amato in front: <br />JOBS FRUIT STORE <br />ITALIAN I DOMESTIC <br />The following photo shows 920 Main (Joe's Market) in 1984 next to 916 Main. <br />ir <br />It would be easy to overlook Pete Madonna's involvement in the store. He was a partner <br />in the store for seven years at the beginning and then kept the store going for years <br />after Joe D'Amato's death. (In between, he managed Colacci's Restaurant at 816 Main <br />for 31 years.) In 1995, Bea Roeder, a Colorado State Folklorist for the Colorado Council <br />on the Arts, interviewed Pete Madonna in the store and she described it in this way: "I <br />walked up Main Street from the Blue Parrot and was intrigued by this plain old white <br />building, narrow, with only a couple of hand-written signs in front: 'Sun-dried tomatoes' <br />and 'Italian sausage.' [A]n old sign on side dimly declares, 'Joe's Fruit Market.' Shelving <br />along walls looks like it is the original shelving.
