920 Main is now the location of By Chance and the Mudslingers Pottery Studio. The
following photo shows 924 Main on the left and 920 Main in the center. (The former
Bugdust Pool Hall at 916 Main, now Creative Framing, is on the right.)
1985 & 2000 Inventory Forms for 920 Main
The 1985 and 2000 reports are incorporated by reference into this report. 920 Main was
first surveyed in 1985. The date of construction given in that report was stated to be
1908, with the source being the 1908 Sanborn map. However, there was not a building
in this location shown on the 1908 Sanborn map and this is thought to be incorrect.
920 Main was also surveyed in 2000. The legal description of the parcel on the 2000
Architectural Inventory Form was stated to be Lots 9 and 10 of Block 1 at that time, but
the stated legal description should have been the more limited description stated at the
beginning of this report. (916 Main was built on part of Lot 9, but was no longer part of
the parcel containing 920 Main and 924 Main.) Also, the reference in the Architectural
Inventory Form to the 1893 Sanborn map showing a house located on the lot of 920
Main was likely intended to refer to the Clarkson house built on Lot 10 and located at
924 Main (next door to 920 Main).
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property records,
census records, oral history interviews, Louisville directories, and Louisville Historical Museum maps, files,
and obituary records.
14
