IU Cityof
Louisville
COLORADO . SINCE 1878
shade trees in their place for light protection and to hide
the retaining wall.
A lengthy discussion of Board and staff members followed
which included the following comments.
• Suggestion of having a local artist create something
with the felled trees.
• Consideration of getting new trees started for future
home owners which will require installing an
irrigation system.
• Concern with the number of dry winters and the
compromised cottonwoods.
• The high cost of saving the trees with the trail
alignment and fencing could mean City Council will
have to make a budget amendment.
• If crusher fines material was used for the trail detour
it would leave a section of trail without snow
removal. Only concrete trails are plowed for snow
removal.
A count was taken on whether to save the two
cottonwood trees or remove them from the public.
Citizens in attendance who voted in favor of saving the
trees were: Matt C., Ed, Carla, Linda, Celia and David (6).
Those voting in favor of removal with the stipulation
that the City would replace them with 6 to 8 shade trees
were Matt T (1). Sophie and Vivian abstained from
voting.
From PPLAB, those voting in favor of saving the trees
were: Ellen, Billy, Diana and Dave (4). Those in favor of
removal were Mark and Shelly (2).
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT • 749 MAIN STREET • LOUISVILLE, CO 80027
(303) 335-4735 • FAX (303) 335-4738
www.Iouisvilleco.gov
4
PARKS RECREATION SENIOR SERVICES OPEN SPACE FORESTRY TRAILS GOLF
