'4* __AI (TALI A Blue Parrot Sign — Recent Photo — Blue Parrot Website LANDMARK SIGNS: The Downtown Sign Manual, approved in 2010, permits signs to be landmarked if they meet the criteria established for a landmark structure, outlined in Sec. 15.36.050. ARCHITECTURAL INTEGRITY: Siqn at 640 Main Street The sign at 640 Main Street is located on the corner of Main Street and Pine Street above the existing main entry to the building on the property. It is 5'-9" wide and 7'-5" tall. The Downtown Sign Manual would not permit the current sign because it exceeds the maximum allowed square footage for a projecting sign. The sign is constructed of painted metal with exposed neon tube lettering. Since its original installation in the 1950s, it appears the only alteration to the sign was in the 1970s with the addition of the cursive "Joe Colacci's" painted lettering and exposed neon tube lettering. When the building at 640 Main Street burned in April 1988, the sign was saved and reinstalled on the new building in roughly the same location. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND CRITERIA FOR LISTING AS LOCAL LANDMARK: More typically, structures and sites are designated as Historic Landmarks. In this case, it will only be the sign currently located at 640 Main, and not the structure or the site as a whole. The landmark application will not be associated with a specific property, and there is no obligation or restriction for the property at 640 Main Street associated with the application, other than the owner allowing access to the property to remove the sign. Landmarks must be at least 50 years old and meet one or more of the criteria for architectural, social or geographic/environmental significance as described in Louisville Municipal Code (LMC) Section 15.36.050(A). 1.
