Some cons for alternative #2
A. Additional costs and monitoring as the trees continue to decline.
B. Reduces but does not eliminate public safety concerns.
C. The City's insurance carrier has stated concerns with liability and public safety.
D. Impacts to the Powerline Line Trail and using limited monetary resources to
temporarily route the trail around the trees' fall zone versus spending funding on
new trails and wayfinding.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that both cottonwood trees be removed and steps taken to relocate
any honeybee hives that may be in the trunk of one of the trees and that landscape
plans be developed by staff and reviewed by PPLAB with an emphasis on the planting
of additional trees.
ATTACHMENTS:
1) OSAB Minutes, December 13, 2017 pertaining to Powerline Trail and
Cottonwood Trees
2) Tree Evaluation by Kevin Marks, Board Certified Master Arborists, January 15,
2018
3) Declining Cottonwood Tree Communication as shared with PPLAB on November
2, 2017
6
