Justin Diester would like to offer a viewing of the Persied Meteor <br />Shower on August 13th, potentially at Community Park, from <br />Midnight to 3:00 am. <br />ii. November in America is a novella by local author Nicholas <br />Bernhard, a local author, describing events that led up to the 1927 <br />Columbine Coal Strike and disaster. He would be willing to provide <br />a book reading. <br />iii. A third person, Jerry Maskowitz, would be interested in providing <br />an hour long nostalgic variety show for seniors. <br />g. Katie talked about marketing efforts from the city. The Arts and Events <br />email newsletter has about 1500 subscribers with a 36% open rate. She <br />has amassed a list of 385 possible volunteers, and 54 musicians that have <br />emailed her. <br />Xl. Public Sculpture Purchase Update (Blake): The 4 -foot tall bronze sculpture <br />"Melody", by Colorado sculptor Rosalind Cook, will be ready to install in late <br />February. She will join "Clarisse" at the Sculpture Garden in Community Park. A <br />local benefactor has donated the $500 installation cost. We might like to follow <br />the theme of nature, with elements of Water, Air, Fire, Sky, and Earth in our <br />sculpture garden. <br />XII. 2018 Programming <br />a. General structure overview: Once a person or group has been booked, <br />one LCC member will be designated the Lead, marketing information and <br />press release will be sent to Blake and Adam, and two or more LCC <br />members will sign up to staff the event and help set up/tear down, <br />provide coffee/tea/snacks, staff the ticket table if needed. <br />b. Arts Center programming. (lead, volunteers) <br />i. Paleontology Lecture, Wed., 2-7 at 7 p.m. (Sean, Blake, Kate) <br />ii. Silent Movie with Rodney Sauer, Sat. 2-10 (Angie, Debbie, Leah) <br />iii. Chain Station Bluegrass, Fri., 3-16 at 7:30 p.m. (Adam/Leah co - <br />lead, Sean, Deb) Adam is hoping to begin a local artist gallery at <br />this event, in conjunction with the nonprofit Guys Who Give, who <br />can apply for a liquor license at this event as a fundraiser. <br />iv. Boulder Bassoons Lecture/Concert, Wed., 4-11 (Blake, Mark Deb) <br />v. Alfredo Muro, Fri., 4-13 at 7:30 (Jennifer/Mark co -lead, Sean, <br />Blake) <br />vi. Cody Qualls and Stephen Ross (of FACE) Friday, 4-27, 7:30 pm <br />(Adam, Kate, Deb) <br />c. Summer Concerts (Adam): Adam almost has the 5 concert series lined <br />up. He is also looking for single or duo opening acts, and we will discuss <br />payment options later. <br />i. Adam also looked into raising the stage at Community Park, and <br />will contact Joe at the Parks department to discuss getting it in <br />the city budget for the next year. We're looking in the $15-20K <br />range for a 9" rise of the stage. <br />-- For approval -- <br />
