Historical Commission <br />Minutes <br />January 3, 2018 <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />ii. Update on City Council meeting of Dec. 5th at which Council <br />approved the conceptual design for a new Museum & Visitor <br />Center building: The City Council approved the conceptual design <br />for the Museum with the north entrance with a 5 to 1 vote at the <br />December 5th meeting. <br />iii. 2018 funding to address the critical deficiencies outlined in the <br />Historic Structure Assessment reports for the Museum buildings: <br />In 2017 the Historical Structure Assessments done on the three <br />buildings on the Museum campus outlined some critical <br />deficiencies. The City has approved funding for addressing the <br />deficiencies in 2018. Bridget will continue to report on how this <br />develops. <br />X. Chairperson's Report: Commission Chair Dan Mellish reported continued <br />discussions with City Council members on issues relating to goals of the Museum <br />and Commission. A question that has come up is how much the Foundation would <br />be able to raise for a new building on the Museum campus. <br />XI. Pioneer Award update: The Historical Commission selected Don Buffo as the <br />recipient of the Pioneer Award. The Buffo family was notified of the nomination, <br />and the article for the Historian is almost complete. The award will be presented at <br />the Chamber of Commerce banquet on the 24th of January. <br />XII. Election of officers for 2018 (officers assume duties upon election): <br />The slate of officers elected for 2018 were: Dan Mellish, Chairperson, Paula Elrod <br />Vice Chairperson, and Jon Ferris, Secretary. These appointments were approved. <br />XIII. Items of common interest with the Historic Preservation Commission: reports <br />from HPC and from HC liaison to HPC: Chuck had no information to report due to <br />the HPC not having a meeting in December. <br />A. 2018 Liaison to Historic Preservation Commission: Paula will continue as <br />liaison to the HPC. <br />XIV. Louisville History Foundation update: <br />A. Number of members/memberships as of 12/31/2017: Bridget reported <br />that this is the highest number of paying memberships ever for the <br />organization, with a total of 778 paying memberships.
