I 121 Cityoy
r Louisville
PARKS & RECREATION
Memorandum
To: Open Space Advisory Board
Joe Stevens, Director of Parks and Recreation
From: Allan Gill, PLA, Parks Project Manager
Date: June 13, 2018
Re: New Trails CIP Update
"New Trails Capital Improvement Project Overview"
Staff has been working with Scott Belonger with Loris and Associates on the design of two trail
segments as part of the 2017 New Trails CIP.
1. Connection 1 from the pedestrian bridge on the west side of Avista Hospital and wrapping
around the hospital and connecting to St. Andrews Lane.
2. Connection 2 from West Hackberry Street and South Tyler Avenue to Warembourg Open
Space. There are four alignment options to consider.
The City has asked Loris and Associates for a cost proposal for design work for design of six additional
trail intersection improvements, a portion of the funding will be used to gather additional topographic
information for Site #2 (West Hackberry). Since the original proposal for the work, the project limits
have expanded to include the Mining Trail / Goodhue Trail Intersection.
The original contract amount for the 2017 New Trails CIP was: $41,820
The contract modification to include the waytindinq trail intersection comes to: $8,700
The new total contract amount: $50,520
For the New Trails CIP 2020 and beyond the Board has requested a review of the trails and
priority ranking.
Starting in 2020 we have design work for:
o Trail 3 the West Dahlia / Fireside to Powerline trail.
o The 104th Street Trail. The City has a partner in Boulder County for the construction of
the trail. In terms of challenges it takes an additional level of cooperation to ensure
there is thorough communication and to identify funding sources and the time line for
construction.
In 2021 we have design work for:
o Trail 5 the Davidson Mesa Link to the neighborhood to the east.
In 2022 we have design work for:
o Trail 6, Parallel to the Rail Road Tracks. The City has the Ascent Church as partner
for this trail segment. In terms of challenges the property being developed has three
different owners including the Church and unfortunately they are not getting along
7
