Historical Background
After the Original Town of Louisville was platted in 1878, lots in this area along Front Street were among the first
developed. Initially known as First Street, this area evolved as Louisville's Main Street in the years prior to the turn
of the twentieth century. In the early 1900s, Second Street (located a block to the west), became the community's jl
official Main Street, while Front Street (the original Main Street) gave way to residences and secondary businesses.
Sanborn insurance maps, dated 1893, 1900, and 1908, depict a single dwelling, with a secondary structure located
directly behind it, and with a larger secondary building located on the alley to the west.
This house has evidntly served as a single family residence throughout its existence. From the early 1950s into the 4'
late 1980s, members of the Coet family owned and lived here. Leon Coet, and his wife Jewell, were the owners
in 1951. Although he was principally a miner, at that time Leon was employed as a clerk at J.F. Dalby General
Merchandise Store. Paul and Mercedes Coet lived here in the 1960s and early 1970s. They were followed by Noel
Coet in the 1980s. The property was apparently vacant in the early 1990s. It is presently a rental.
I
36.
