Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
July 11, 2018
IX. Discussion Item: 2020-2023 OSAB Recommendations for Additional Trails and
Prioritization of Proposed Trails
Laura asked for Board members to "vote" low, medium, or high for each of the 14 trails
shown in the packet. Peter and Helen asked for some criteria for ranking be explained to
help guide our rankings. Laura noted that High priority trails have a more immediate time
component, where Low priority trails are ones which a board member is ok with possibly
never being built.
Mike noted a criteria of "how additive" to the system the trail is, how likely it is to be
used, and how well it connects regional trails. Missy added that "public benefit" is a
useful criterion. Helen noted that safety is one of her criteria.
Trail Voting Results:
Trail # and description
High
Med
Low
1 - Callahan Perimeter Trail
0
0
7
2 - Overlook Underpass to Mayhoffer Singletree
5
2
0
3 - 104th St. Trail
3
3
1
4 - Avista Hospital Trail
3
4
0
5 - Coal Creek to Ascent Church Trail
0
3
4
6 - Cottonwood Park trail re -alignment
3
3
1
7 - McCaslin to Davidson Mesa connection
0
2
5
8 - NE section of Warembourg/Mining Trail link
3
0
4
9 - W. Discussion Item: Dog Recreation Tiger Team Update to OSAB Regarding
Proposed DRAFT "Louisville Best Practices for Dog Recreation" for OSAB
Consideration and Revisions
Mike explained the genesis of this Best Practices document: OSAB was given direction
by Council to examine Dog Recreation in general for future Louisville projects. A tiger
team was formed to work with the Parks Advisory Board (PPLAB) to research Best
Practices from other communities and to review/select the recommendations which
seem most applicable to Louisville. Mike stressed that this is a draft document from
OSAB's side and does not yet reflect PPLAB input. After OSAB & PPLAB are in
agreement, the document will be shared with City Council and a period of public
comment will take place.
