Business Retention and Development Committee
Meeting Minutes
May 7, 2018
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Approved.
V. PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA: None.
VI. BUSINESS MATTERS OF THE COMMITTEE:
1. Planning Conceptual Review Recommendation Letter. The Committee
discussed a draft letter to City Council recommending that the City pursue
instituting a conceptual design review option / process as a precedent to
submission of a definitive site plan review application. Members of the public
provided comments in support of the recommendation, noting positive experience /
benefits from such a process in other communities (Loveland, Broomfield were
mentioned as examples). Staff noted that Superior was considering abandoning
the Concept Review process due to misperceived expectations generated contrary
to the informal feedback intended by the process. Following the discussion, the
Committee requested that Mr. DeJong re -work the letter to move the
recommendation to the first paragraph, add bullet points in support of the
recommendation, and close with restatement of the recommended action.
Members of the Committee agreed to provide comments (if any) by close of
business Tuesday, May 15.
2. Louisville Business Forum Update: Aaron DeJong updated the Committee on
the progress / planning for the Business Forum scheduled for May 17. The event
will be at the Ascent Church facility (former Sam's Club) 550 S. McCaslin Blvd,
Louisville. Sponsors have committed to providing funding for food, beer and wine.
85 individuals have RSVP'd to date. Mr. DeJong provided a draft presentation
outline for discussion. Discussion from the Committee included:
i. Less is more — this is a relatively brief meeting so don't stifle
discussion / feedback with an overly long presentation.
ii. Consider how to Stimulate Questions / Q&A — Have some lead-off
questions and clear moment in the meeting for that opportunity.
iii. Business Survey Results — provide samples of the feedback gleaned
from the Business Survey.
iv. Business Relevant Topics — focus on topics pertinent to Louisville
businesses; e.g., is the North Louisville drainage underpass relevant
to local business?
v. Acknowledge Competitive Community Landscape Seeking
Businesses — discuss business assistance programs.
VII. Retention Visits. None due to Mr. DeJong paternity leave.
VIII. ED Update.
