Senior Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
October 17, 2008
Holland moonlight supper. Selena, Walt, Bob, Connie Howes and Claire all
spoke. The meeting was recorded and shown on TV. At the next meeting,
October 9, the
Commissioners reviewed every page. They finally adopted a paragraph that the
city should encourage new housing units which include, etc., that might provide,
by example, main floor bedroom, bath, laundry, and level entry without steps.
They eliminated co-housing and shared housing. Before the meeting, Bob
contacted Jay Ruggeri of Lafayette who gave him a lot of printed information.
This was handed out to all the commissioners before the meeting. The
commissioners were unfamiliar with the term "visitability". At their October 9
meeting, they added a paragraph on it, including a required visitability "no step"
at entranceway, all inside doors providing at least 31 inches of unobstructed
passage, and a half bathroom on the mail level.
Walt pointed out that Louisville was the only community not represented at
Lafayette's visitability seminar.
The City Council will review the Plan update late October or early November.
We may need to get seniors to attend. Selena suggested a flyer to be handed
out a lunch.
2. Discussion of existing plan for the Baptist property
Bob said that the Planning Commission refused approval for the latest
contractor proposal (43 townhouses). It included no children's playgrounds. If
the land becomes available again, he said, it would be nice for senior housing as
it is close to the stores, etc.
3. Future Plans
Selena said it is difficult to get homeless people into housing. We need to
get 1-2 apartments reserved for these cases. She concluded that we needed to
collect more documentation of a specific type. Plans are to collect
documentation and attend
Council meetings. Marlene stressed the urgency of finding housing for seniors
as many are in distress.
Discussion Items for Next Meeting. Louisville Comprehensive Plan, affordable
housing for seniors in Louisville, City Ordinance for Senior Housing.
Adjourn -The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
