SUBJECT:
2018 STREET FAIRE SEASON REVIEW
DATE:
SEPTEMBER 25, 2018
3. Blitzen Trapper $23,530
4. Shinyribs $21,947
5. Sam Fish $30,060
6. Gasoline Lollipops $21,516
7. The Young Dubliners $17,961
8. Lee Fields and Fox Feather $18,535
TOTAL Alcohol Sales = $180,133
The Street Faire Shuttle served 1840 people at no charge over the 8 night program.
This translates to 613 cars (at 3 people per car) avoiding downtown, and $1.37 per
person per ride cost. This is significantly up from 2017 (994 people).
The DBA and City Staff received very few complaints during the concert season.
Parking ambassadors noted calmer nights. Staff received positive reactions from
residents who appreciated the less crowded atmosphere.
Overall, revenues exceeded cost by $16,000, allowing the DBA to have resources to
invest in other programming and services for 2019.
Season Synopsis
Vendors, sponsors and downtown businesses were happier with the Street Faire
season this year. Sponsor revenue increased this year (at over $104,000) and the
Committee is confident 2019 sponsorship levels will remain strong.
The season had no foul weather during the event and only one night had not great
weather (Young Dubliners) but didn't significantly affect the attendance.
Beer token prices remained $6 per token in 2018. Margarita prices remained $10 per
token. The Faire implemented a happy hour this year with 2 for 1 drinks from 5-6pm
each night. The happy hour was matched with local performances by area music and
dance groups for entertainment at the start of the Faire. Results were mixed as sales
didn't significantly increase during that timeframe but attendance did increase earlier in
the night.
2018 was the second year attendees could pay for drink tickets by credit card through
the DBA's Square account. Approximately 34% of all sales were through credit card.
Credit card utilization increased significantly from 2017, mostly due to attendees now
knowing the Street Faire takes cards.
The Street Faire engaged Eco-Cycle to implement the zero -waste components of the
event. Waste diversion was much better this year with eco-cycle's estimate being 95%
diversion rate.
COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
3
