LCity,f
Louisville
Parks & Recreation
Memorandum
To: Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
From: Dean Johnson, Parks Superintendent
Date: 10/22/2018
Subject: Discussion on Park Naming and Park Signage Project
Purpose:
The purpose of this agenda item is to reintroduce the Park Signage Project and discuss the
possibility of suggesting name changes to a few of the park sites with unofficial names.
Background:
Over time, the Parks and Recreation Department has been installing park signs as funding has
become available. Pending budget approval, the Department may have the opportunity to
continue with this program and install additional park signs in 2019. This park sign program will
primarily focus on the smaller park signs which will include a list of park rules as shown in the
attached diagram (please note final design may be modified).
For some of the sites, formal names have not been adopted (please see attachment). The Parks
and Public Landscaping Advisory Board has the opportunity to review a few of the sites with
unofficial names and suggest a park name change. Staff is requesting that the PPLAB consider a
process by which the board would develop naming options and / or propose names for these
parks. Hopefully, this naming project would be completed in 2019.
Next Steps:
Discuss park sites with current unofficial names and consider process options for proposing and
selecting names in 2019.
10
