Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
October 2016
IL:
City C)
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
301 East St. History
Legal Description: The current description is Lot 2, Clementine Subdivision. Historically, this
property had a description common to other area properties in unincorporated Boulder
County: part of Sec 8, T1S, R69W. The entire parcel was also known as Tract 707 prior to being
subdivided in 1987.
Year of Construction: circa 1907
Summary: This was the home of members of the Gelsomino and Annunciata Romano family for
80 years.
Romano Family Ownership, 1907-1987 (80 years); Discussion of Date of Construction
Peter F. Murphy owned this property and surrounding property. Boulder County property
records indicate that the property may have come from the Union Pacific Coal Company, but
there is a lack of specificity with respect to the legal description. The deeds show that Peter F.
Murphy of Louisville purchased property from Union Pacific in August 1905. He then sold this
parcel to George and Annunciata Romano in 1907.
The 1948 Boulder County Assessor card for this property did not give a date of construction.
The Boulder County website gives the date of construction as 1900. Boulder County has been
found to have sometimes been incorrect with respect to the dates of construction of Louisville
buildings, so other evidence is looked to. In this case, the house does appear on the 1909
Drumm's Wall Map of Louisville, so it was constructed by 1909. There is no evidence that there
were owners or residents prior to when the Romano family purchased the property in about
1907. For these reasons, and in the absence of other evidence, the estimated date of
construction is presumed to be "circa 1907."
Gelsomino "George" Romano (1865-1929) and Annunciata Romano (1876-1969) were both
born in Italy and they married in Italy. Their first child, Louise, was born in Italy in 1892. The
1
