Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
February 2017
LCity0r
Louisville
COLORADO • SINCE 1878
515 Jefferson Ave. History
Legal Description: Lots 13 & 14, Block 3, Acme Place Addition
Year of Construction: original date of construction unknown; date of house being moved to
current location was 1946 or 1947 (see discussion below)
Summary: William and Eleanor Brimble had the house at 515 Jefferson moved in from a coal
mine camp in 1946 or 1947. It was then the Brimble family home for over fifty years.
History of the House as Being Relocated; Discussion of Date of Construction
According to members of the Brimble family, who owned 515 Jefferson for several decades, the
house at 515 Jefferson was moved in from a coal mine camp. (Some local mines, such as the
Monarch Mine, were in the process of closing in the mid -to -late 1940s, and some had mine
camps with small houses that mine owners rented to miners.) The original date of construction
of the house is not known. It is believed to have been moved to 515 Jefferson in 1946 or 1947.
Owners William and Eleanor Brimble were living in the house by April 1947, according to one of
their children who was born that month. The County Assessor card that was completed for 515
Jefferson in 1948 confirms that the house was "moved in."
Boulder County's online records give 1948 as the house's date of construction. However, the
County has sometimes been found to be in error with respect to the date of construction of
houses in the area, so other evidence is looked to. In this case, the date offered by the County
contradicts the information, including information on the County Assessor card itself, that the
house was constructed elsewhere and was moved in. It is not unusual for the County to give a
relocation date as the date of construction (although the fact that the lots were purchased in
1946 and that the family states that it was the family residence by early 1947 would indicate
that the house was on the site by early 1947, not relocated in 1948). The County designating
1948 as the date of construction was likely done more for tax assessment purposes than with
the purpose of ascertaining the actual date of construction.
1
