Lucy Arnold owned 525 Lincoln until 1903, selling to Joseph C. Kenwell. The next owners were
Louis and Rosalie Savlon, who owned the property until 1906.
Ownership of Property by B. Franklin Giles, L.B. Davis, J.B. Sandy, 1906-1940
Records indicate that in 1906, B. Franklin Giles purchased 525 Lincoln. B. Franklin "Frank" Giles
(1863-1942) and Etta Sadler Giles (1874-1954) were from Pennsylvania. Frank was a coal miner.
According to deeds recorded with the County, Frank Giles owned 525 Lincoln from 1906 until
1934, except for a brief time from 1921 to 1924 when it was owned by L.B. Davis.
The identity of the residents of 525 Lincoln during the period of ownership by Giles (and that by
Davis) could not be determined with accuracy. B. Franklin Giles and his family are documented
as having mostly lived in four homes owned by the family on S. Front Street. It is possible that
the house at 525 Lincoln was used by members of the extended Giles family or rented out.
Leases were not a type of document that was recorded with the Boulder County Recorder's
Office.
From 1934 to 1940, the owner of 525 Lincoln was J.B. Sandy. Jeremiah B. Sandy (c. 1867-1950)
and Della Sandy (1873-1973) were originally from West Virginia. They had eleven children. They
came to Colorado in 1920 with five daughters, and Jeremiah worked as a coal miner. It could
not be determined whether any members of the family lived in this house during their period of
ownership.
Thompson Ownership of Property, 1940-1945
In 1940, Mattie Thompson purchased 525 Lincoln. Mattie, her husband Arthur, and their
children are remembered as living at 525 Lincoln until the house was sold in 1945.
Arthur Thompson was born in 1900 and grew up in Louisville at 301 Spruce. He worked as a coal
miner and was a mine foreman. He also served as a Louisville city councilman. He married
Mattie Davis in 1922. She had been born in 1898 and was from Missouri.
