In 1951, Colomba Martella DeAndrea conveyed ownership of 1100 Lincoln to herself
and her daughter, Marguirete "Marge" Martella. Marge, who had been born in Marshall
in 1922, had lived in the house at 1100 Lincoln from the age of about eight, and
continued to live there for all of her adult life. Colomba died in 1974 at the age of 86.
Marge Martella became the sole owner of the house. She is believed to have had
remodeling work done on the house in the 1970s.
Marge Martella graduated from Louisville High School in 1940. She is remembered in
Louisville for her longtime employment at the Louisville Post Office. She worked at the
Post Office for over 44 years, from the early 1940s until her retirement in 1988. Over
these years, not only did the location of the Post Office in Louisville change a few times,
but Marge would have witnessed immense changes in the operations of the U.S. Postal
Service.
Marge Martella's 2011 obituary paints a picture of Marge as having an outgoing
personality as well as active involvement in Louisville organizations such as the Society
of Italian Americans, The Elks Club, and the Altar & Rose Society of the St. Louis Catholic
Church.
In 2012, the current owners, Matthew and Jessie Bliss, purchased 1100 Lincoln from the
estate of Marguirete Martella.
Sources
The preceding research is based on a review of relevant and available online County property records,
census records, oral history interviews, and related resources, and Louisville directories, newspaper
articles, maps, files, obituary records, survey records, and historical photographs from the collection of
the Louisville Historical Museum.
