It is
the middle house of three houses in a row in which members of the Barday family lived.
Development of the Louisville Heights Subdivision
The Louisville Heights Addition in which this house sits was platted in 1904 by the
Colorado Mortgage and Investment Co. Ltd. The property was then owned by
Dr. Charles Wolfer and John Affolter, business partners and developers who had
purchased most or all of the blocks in Louisville Heights in 1905 from the Colorado
Mortgage and Investment Co. Ltd. A later owner, when the lots at 620 Garfield were still
undeveloped, was Edward Affolter, followed by Frank Nortnik. In 1939, Nortnik sold ten
lots on Garfield to Amelia Steinbaugh Barday.
Barday Family Ownership (property ownership, 1939-1981; house ownership, 1950-
1981)
In 1939, Amelia Steinbaugh Barday purchased ten lots on Garfield Avenue, south of Pine
Street. She had a home built on the corner in or around 1940. That house is now 636
Garfield. Amelia Barday then lived there with her extended family.
In 1950, while Amelia Barday still owned all ten lots, a home was constructed for her
son, Gene Barday, his wife, Beverly, and their children at 620 Garfield. Another home
was constructed for her other son, Felix "Bud" Barday, and his family at 600 Garfield.
