John and Rose Duffy had two daughters, Ethel (born 1909) and Catherine (born 1914).
Rose Duffy passed away in 1918 (possibly due to influenza) at the age of about 33.
Ethel married Chester Channel in 1926. Chester Channel had been born at the Sunnyside
Mine Camp south of Louisville and grew up in Lafayette. He was a miner for 21 years,
retiring from the Columbine Mine. Later, after the closure of Louisville's coal mines, he
worked for Public Service.
In 1936, John Duffy transferred the property at 720 West St. to his daughter, Ethel
Channel, and her husband, Chester. Evidence indicates that the Channels raised their
sons, Edward and Richard, in the house and that Ethel's father, John, continued to live
with them. In fact, based on directory listings, it is known that John Duffy continued to
reside in the house until around the time of his death in 1974 at the age of 91.
The following photo and image of the ground layout are from the 1948 County Assessor
card for 720 West. The red pencil markings on the ground layout, noting a small
addition, are believed to have been added in 1955. The card also noted the presence of
a garage.
