When Aldo and Josephine Negri sold 1201 La Farge in 1941, they also sold 1209 La
Farge, which was a house that they had moved from a mine camp (believed to be the
mine camp for the State Mine in Erie). Their sons, John and Mike, were serving in World
War II. Aldo and Josephine Negri moved to a house that they had constructed on their
property at what became 1221 La Farge. Later in the 1940s, the Negri family members
moved to Denver.
Beranek Ownership, 1941-2011
Carl and Julia Beranek purchased this property at 1201 La Farge from Aldo and
Josephine Negri in 1941.
Carl Beranek (1910-2002) grew up in Lafayette as one of about eighteen children born
to Joseph Beranek and Elizabeth Cech Beranek, who were Czech. He married Julia
DiLorenzo (1914-1984) in 1933. Julia was the daughter of Pasquale DiLorenzo and
Josephine DiGiacomo DiLorenzo of Louisville. Carl Beranek worked as a coal miner, and
directories show that he worked at the Columbine and Eagle Mines. Records indicate
that Carl and Julia lived at 1201 La Farge until their deaths. In recent years, the house at
1201 La Farge has been owned by their son, Gary Beranek, who also resided there. He
sold it to the current owners in 2011.
The following images show the photo of the house from the 1948 County Assessor card
and a ground layout sketch of the house at that time, during the ownership by the
Beranek family.
4
