Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
July 2011
LCityr
Louisville
COLORADO - SINCE 1878
1017 Front St. History
This report specifically relates to the history of the garage at 1017 Front St. For more specific
information and resources about the house and who resided in it, please contact the Louisville Historical
Museum.
Caledonia Addition, 1890
The Caledonia Addition was platted and recorded with Boulder County in 1890 by James Cannon,
Howard Morris, and Henry Brooks. It was the fourth addition to original Louisville.
Earliest Owners, to 1904
Online County records show that the deed by which James Butcher acquired this property from the
developers of the subdivision was recorded in 1894. He could have actually acquired the property
earlier than when the deed was recorded. Boulder County gives 1892 as the estimated date of
construction for the house on this property.
Another early owner of 1017 Front was Ira T. McAllister, who owned McAllister's Lumber with
locations in at least Boulder and Louisville. McAllister held a deed of trust on the property and very
likely built the house for Butcher. A default situation appears to have led to McAllister taking
ownership of the property.
Frank and Florinda Ross, 1904-1913
The Frank and Florinda Ross family owned this house from 1904 to 1913, and Louisville directories and
the 1910 census show them as living here. They were both born in Italy and had at least four children.
Frank Ross worked as a coal miner in the Louisville area.
Patete Family, 1914-1936
The Patete family owned this house from 1914 to 1936. The family is shown in directories and in the
1920 and 1930 census records as residing here. Mike and Annie Patete were both born in Italy and had
at least six children. Mike Patete was a coal miner who was born in 1867 and died in 1923. Records
show that his widow, Annie (1877-1938), continued to live in this house with some of their children
