Louisville Historical Museum
Department of Library & Museum Services
City of Louisville, Colorado
October 2013
Cityqr
Louisville
COLORADO .SINCE 1878
1409 Courtesy Rd. History
Legal Description: Lot 5, Block 7, Caledonia Place
Year of Construction: circa 1898 (see discussion below)
Summary: This house in the Louisville neighborhood of Little Italy is the longtime (since 1936)
home of the Domenico family. It has also been owned by a French couple and families of
German heritage, reflecting the different ethnicities of people who came to Louisville.
Development of Caledonia Place
The subdivision in which 1409 Courtesy Rd. is located is Caledonia Place. It was platted and
recorded with Boulder County in 1890 by James Cannon, Jr., Howard Morris, and Henry Brooks.
It was the fourth addition to original Louisville, which had been platted in 1878.
Early Ownership; Poiret Ownership 1897-1903; Date of Construction
In 1893, Peter James (a name that was Americanized from "Di Giacomo") bought all twelve lots
of Block 7 of the Caledonia Place Addition from the United Coal Company, the company of
Caledonia Place founder James Cannon, Jr. James sold off different lots to buyers.
In October 1897, the warranty deed was recorded by which Peter James sold this Lot 5 to Frank
Poiret, whose name was spelled several different ways in the records, including "Poirep,"
"Poret," "Poirret," and "Poriz."
Boulder County gives 1900 as the estimated date of construction of this house. However, the
County has frequently been found to be in error with respect to the dates of construction of
historic Louisville buildings, or the dates have been found to be very rough estimates, so it is
helpful to look at all of the available and relevant information.
