Historical Background
This house was constructed at the turn of the twentieth century, and has served as a single-family dwelling since
that time. Little is known about the early residents and owners of this property. There is a good chance, though,
that they were employed by area coal mines. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Louisville's economy was
principally based on the area's coal industry, and consequently, the livelihoods of most of the community's
inhabitants were directly, or indirectly, dependent on the coal mines.
From the late 1930s (and perhaps earlier) until the early 1990s, this house was the home of the Leslie C. and Alice
H. Graves family. The 1940 and 1951 Boulder County Directories list Mr. Graves as the Manager or
Superintendent of the Public Service Company of Colorado. In the 1959 Boulder County Directory, he is listed as
an electrician employed by the Public Service Company. Louisville's section in the Longmont City Directory
suggests that Mr. Graves may have passed away in the late 1970s. Alice H. Graves is listed at this address into
the early 1990s. In 1997, Whitney Harrison and Susan Whitehurst resided here as tenants. Paul J. Tatter, the
current owner since 1993, resides in Connecticut and maintains this house as a rental.
36.
