Historical Background <br />This house was constructed at the turn of the twentieth century, and has served as a single-family dwelling since <br />that time. Little is known about the early residents and owners of this property. There is a good chance, though, <br />that they were employed by area coal mines. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Louisville's economy was <br />principally based on the area's coal industry, and consequently, the livelihoods of most of the community's <br />inhabitants were directly, or indirectly, dependent on the coal mines. <br />From the late 1930s (and perhaps earlier) until the early 1990s, this house was the home of the Leslie C. and Alice <br />H. Graves family. The 1940 and 1951 Boulder County Directories list Mr. Graves as the Manager or <br />Superintendent of the Public Service Company of Colorado. In the 1959 Boulder County Directory, he is listed as <br />an electrician employed by the Public Service Company. Louisville's section in the Longmont City Directory <br />suggests that Mr. Graves may have passed away in the late 1970s. Alice H. Graves is listed at this address into <br />the early 1990s. In 1997, Whitney Harrison and Susan Whitehurst resided here as tenants. Paul J. Tatter, the <br />current owner since 1993, resides in Connecticut and maintains this house as a rental. <br />36.
