General Architectural Description <br />The Martella House is a 1 z-story wood frame dwelling, <br />supported by a low painted yellow concrete foundation. The <br />exterior walls are cladded with yellow vinyl siding, and the <br />roof is a moderately -pitched front gable with black asphalt <br />shingles and boxed eaves. Two brick chimneys are located <br />on the south facing roof slope. A shed -roofed bay window <br />is located on the north elevation. Windows elsewhere <br />include a variety of 9-light fixed -panes, lx1 horizontal <br />sliders, 6-light fixed -panes, and 1/1 double -hung sash, all <br />with painted blue wood frames. Many windows have been <br />altered from their original appearance. A solid wood door, <br />with an aluminum storm door, opens onto a 4-step concrete <br />porch, which extends nearly the full length of the facade. <br />Wood frame half walls and wrought iron posts support a <br />gabled porch roof. A painted white wood -paneled door, <br />with an aluminum storm door, opens onto a 2-step concrete <br />porch on the building's south elevation. <br />A Garage is located to the west of the house. This is a <br />wood -frame structure with a rectangular plan. The garage <br />has a concrete slab foundation and floor, painted white <br />narrow horizontal wood siding, and a moderately -pitched <br />front gable roof, with grey asphalt shingles over lx wood <br />decking and 2x wood rafters. Single -light fixed -pane <br />windows are located on the south and east elevations. A <br />painted blue, wood -paneled, roll -away garage door opens <br />toward the alley on the west elevation. A single, painted <br />blue, wood -paneled door is located on the east elevation. <br />29.Construction History (include description and dates of major additions, <br />alterations, or demolitions: <br />Boulder County Assessor records list this building's date of <br />construction as 1908. Boulder County Directories suggest <br />that the building may actually have existed by 1904. <br />Sanborn maps are unavailable for this lot and block. <br />23.
