General Architectural Description <br />This house, presently used both as a beauty parlor, and as a <br />residence, is a rectangular -shaped wood frame dwelling, supported <br />by a low concrete foundation. The building's exterior walls are <br />comprised of painted pale yellow wide horizontal wood siding, and <br />the roof is a moderately -pitched front gable, with red asphalt <br />shingles and boxed eaves. There are no chimneys. Windows <br />include original 1/1 double -hung sash, with painted blue wood <br />frames, and several non -original lxl horizontal sliders, with metal <br />frames. A painted blue wood -paneled door, with a painted blue <br />wood screen door, opens onto a concrete porch, which extends <br />nearly the full length of the facade (west elevation). Black <br />wrought iron posts hold up a hipped porch roof. A wood -paneled <br />door, with a white metal storm door, opens onto a redwood deck, <br />located on the east elevation. The deck is covered by a shed roof, <br />and is approached by a handicapped ramp. A third entrance is <br />located on the south elevation, where a painted blue wood -paneled <br />door, with a black wrought iron security door, opens onto a 4-step <br />wood porch. <br />A two -car Garage is located east of the house. This is a <br />rectangular -shape wood frame building, with a concrete slab <br />foundation and floor. The exterior walls are painted white <br />horizontal wood siding, and the roof is a moderately -pitched side <br />gable, with red asphalt shingles and boxed eaves. Single 1xl <br />horizontal sliding windows are located on the west and east <br />elevations. A single, painted blue, wood -paneled door is located <br />on the west elevation. Paired, painted blue and white, wood - <br />paneled roll -away garage doors open onto a concrete driveway on <br />the south elevation. The driveway extends to Elm Street to the <br />south. <br />29.Construction History (include description and dates of major additions, <br />alterations, or demolitions: <br />Boulder County Assessor records list 1890 as this building's date <br />of construction, and an 1893 Sanborn map corroborates that the <br />original portion of the building was constructed prior to 1893. A <br />hipped and gable addition to the east (rear) elevation dates to <br />1951. The garage was built in 1951 as well. The house was <br />extensively remodeled in 1981, when part of the dwelling was <br />converted into a beauty parlor. The house was resided, several <br />window openings were changed, and the wrought iron front porch <br />posts were put up at that time. <br />23.
