General Architectural Description <br />Situated on a prominent corner lot in downtown Louisville, <br />this commercial building features a tall one-story <br />rectangular plan. The structure is supported by a stone <br />foundation, covered with painted concrete pargeting. The <br />building's primary exterior walls - facing toward Main and <br />Pine Streets on the west and south elevations - are <br />comprised of pale blue pressed metal, in a faux stone <br />pattern. The building's original north elevation was also <br />cladded with pressed metal. The east (rear) elevation wall <br />is cladded with rti 1 <br />painted <br />pale blue vsiding. e ca wood <br />Parapet walls extend well above the roof lines on the west <br />and south elevations. The parapets are decorated with <br />distinctive cornices, with dentil courses, and with a <br />cannonball finial located at the north end of the west <br />elevation. A recessed corner storefront entryway, topped by <br />a gabled pediment, opens onto the concrete sidewalk at the <br />corner of Main and Pine Streets (southwest corner of the <br />building). Paired, stained natural brown, glass -in -wood - <br />frame entry doors, each with one large oval light, and <br />topped by a single transom light, opens onto a brick paved <br />floor in the recessed entryway. A large, single -light fixed - <br />pane storefront display window, with painted purple wood <br />frames and surrounds, and covered by a burgundy color <br />canvas awning, is located on the west elevation, to the north <br />of the corner entry. Windows along the south elevation <br />include two 28-light fixed -panes, four 1/1 double -hung sash, <br />and one single -light fixed -pane with a rounded arch, all with <br />painted blue wood frames and surrounds, all topped by <br />distinctive segmental cornices, and all with burgundy color <br />canvas awnings. Two signs extend from the building's wall, <br />above the corner entry, advertising "Karen's Country <br />Kitchen", and "Bakery, Gifts, Dining." Additional sign's <br />advertising the business are located on the west and south <br />elevations. Two service entrances are located on the <br />building's east (rear) elevation. <br />29.Construction History (include description and dates of major additions, <br />alterations, or demolitions: <br />This lot was originally built on in 1894. The extant building <br />evidently dates to 1905. At some point, during the early <br />years of the twentieth century, the building was extended <br />toward the alley to the east. More recently, the building has <br />been connected to 702 Main Street next door to the north. <br />Both building's are now part of Karen's Country Kitchen. <br />23.
