General Architectural Description <br />This is an early twentieth century wood frame commercial <br />building, with a false front facade. Fronting onto Main Street to <br />the east, the building features a rectangular plan, and is supported <br />by a concrete or stone foundation. The roof is a moderately - <br />pitched front gable, with grey asphalt shingles and boxed eaves. <br />A shed -roofed addition, from the 1960s or 1970s, has been built <br />onto the west (rear) elevation. The building's facade features two <br />large 2-light storefront display windows, with red brick rowlock <br />slipsills. The windows flank a glass -in -wood -frame entry door, with <br />a transom light. The kick plate area, below the windows, are <br />faced with red brick, and brick columns are located at either end <br />of the facade. The upper facade wall features horizontal <br />weatherboard siding, with painted black corner boards, and with <br />a dentil course beneath a projecting cornice. A wood sign board <br />projects from the upper facade wall, advertising The druids Arms. <br />Small neon signs in the storefront display windows advertise <br />Guinness Draught, Bass, Boddingtons, and Caffrey's Irish Ale. <br />A flat -roofed walk-in refrigerator/ freezer is located behind the <br />building to the west. Also behind the building, is a small storage <br />shed, with a wood timbers on grade foundation, particle board <br />walls, and a low-pitched gable roof. <br />29.Construction History (include description and dates of major additions, <br />alterations, or demolitions: <br />Boulder County Assessor records list 1902 as this building's date <br />of construction. Sanborn insurance maps corroborate that the <br />building was constructed sometime between 1900 and 1908. <br />23. Landscape or setting special features: <br />This building is located on the west side of <br />Main Street, in downtown Louisville. The <br />building fronts directly onto a wide concrete <br />sidewalk which parallels Main Street. The State <br />Mercantile Building is adjacent to the south.
