Statement of Significance This building is historically significant, relative to National Register Criterion A, for its association with early sustained commercial development in Louisville. The building is architecturally significant, under National Register Criterion C, as a representative early twentieth century false -front commercial building. Due to some loss of integrity, the building's significance is not to the extent that would qualify it for individual listing in the National Register of Historic Places, however, it is eligible as a contributing resource within a potential downtown Louisville Historic District. 43. Assessment of historic physical integrity related to significance: This building's historical integrity has been compromised by a shed -roofed addition to the west (rear) elevation, and by the application of brick facing to the facade. The fixed -pane windows are also not historic. As commercial buildings evolve, their facades are periodically altered to accommodate new businesses. Such facade changes are representative of these buildings' patterns of use, and are an important element of their history. As a result, alterations to a commercial building's facade should not automatically preclude its eligibility to be listed as a contributing property within a potential National Register historic district.
