General Architectural Description <br />Comprised of a single commercial building, this property is <br />located on the east side of Main Street, near the north end <br />of downtown Louisville. The building is one-story tall, with <br />a rectangular plan, and of wood frame construction. The <br />facade fronts directly onto a wide concrete sidewalk which <br />parallels Main Street, on the west elevation. The building <br />is supported by a low concrete foundation. The facade wall <br />is stuccoed, white and grey in color, while the side walls, <br />along the north and south elevations, are cladded with <br />painted white horizontal weatherboard. The roof is front <br />gabled, with grey asphalt shingles and boxed eaves. A red <br />brick chimney is located on the exterior of the north <br />elevation. The building's facade is symmetrically arranged, <br />below a false -front parapet wall, with a stepped gable. A <br />stained natural brown glass -in -wood -frame door, with a <br />painted green wood screen door, is located in the center of <br />the facade. The entry door is flanked by two single -light <br />fixed -pane storefront windows, with painted green wood <br />frames, and covered with red, white, and green canvas <br />awnings. Above the entry door is a wooden sign board <br />advertising Joe's Italian Market. The sign is illuminated <br />from above by a distinctive light. A large wood -frame <br />addition has been built onto the original east (rear) <br />elevation, extending the building toward the alley. A <br />painted white, vertical wood plank, overhead garage door, <br />opens from the addition, towards the alley on the east <br />elevation. Five 3-light windows, with painted white wood <br />frames and surrounds, and with exterior wood screens, are <br />located along the north elevation. Three similar windows <br />penetrate the south elevation wall. A painted white wood - <br />paneled door, with three upper sash lights, and with a <br />painted green wood screen door, is also located on the north <br />elevation. <br />29.Construction History (include description and dates of major additions, <br />aerations, or demolitions: <br />This building was constructed in 1948 for Joe and Rose <br />Damato. The Damatos operated Joe's Fruit Store in the <br />building, while living in the house next door to the north. <br />An addition has been put on the rear of the building, <br />probably in the 1960s. Sanborn Assessor maps reveal that <br />in earlier years, between 1893 and 1900, a dwelling was <br />located on this lot. <br />23. Landscape or setting special features: <br />This building is located on the east side of <br />Main Street, near the north end of downtown <br />Louisville.
