Resource Number: 5BL 11315
Temporary Resource Number: 157508435002
19. Primary external roof material: Asphalt
20. Special features: Porch, fence, car port
21. General architectural description: 716 Pine is a wood -framed one-story residence, rectangular in plan, with a
front gable roof. The primary facade faces north to Pine Street. Exterior siding is light gray horizontal
composition siding. The roofing consists of gray asphalt shingles. There is a central, open front porch with a
hip roof on a historic wooden beam supported by non -historic wood posts painted white. The porch is
surrounded by a white wood picket porch fence. The porch floor is concrete. The front entrance is a white
metal paneled door with a fan light, and a black metal security door.
Along the east side of the house, a lower -sloped, shed roof extension of the main roof, supported by three
square wood posts, covers a side porch. At the south end of the east side, there is an attached carport with a
shed roof on wood posts. At the west side, the house has been extended to the south with a gable roofed
addition. Yet another addition appears to have been constructed to the east of the southwest addition. These
are not readily visible due to the privacy fencing.
Windows are non -historic brown aluminum sliders on the north facade. The west elevation of the original house
has a historic wood double -hung window with white painted wood trim. The east and south sides have non -
historic aluminum sliders and some fixed wood windows.
22. Architectural style/building type: Other style: Wood frame front gable
23. Landscaping or special setting features: Jefferson Place Subdivision is a historic residential neighborhood
adjacent to downtown Louisville. The subdivision is laid out on a standard urban grid of narrow, deep lots with
rear alleys. Houses are built to a fairly consistent setback line along the streets with small front lawns, deep
rear yards and mature landscaping. Small, carefully maintained single-family residences predominate. Most of
the houses are wood framed, one or one and one-half stories in height, featuring white or light-colored
horizontal wood or steel siding, gabled or hipped asphalt shingled roofs and front porches. While many of the
houses have been modified over the years, most of the historic character -defining features have been
preserved. 716 Pine Street is consistent with these patterns and blends well with the scale and character of the
neighborhood. It has a small, grassy front yard that is open to the street. There is a large spruce tree in the
front yard. A concrete walk leads to the front porch. The west side yard is gated and paved with concrete.
This yard is not separated from 708 Pine. The east side yard, adjacent to the public alley, is enclosed with a 6
foot wood privacy fence with diagonal wooden lattice above vertical unpainted wood boards. South of the
house, a concrete driveway leads from the alley to a car port. The back yard is grassy and enclosed with
privacy fencing.
24. Associated buildings, features, or objects: There is a metal shed with a metal gable roof at the south end of the
back yard.
IV. ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY
25.
