Resource Number: 5BL 957
Temporary Resource Number: 157508426012
35. Historical background:
This building is part of Jefferson Place, the first residential subdivision in Louisville.
According to Boulder County records, the house at 717 Pine was constructed in 1991. It replaced a house that is
believed to have been built by 1900.
The original house at this location was owned by the Hoffmire family for over the longest period, over fifty years, from
1918 to 1971. Rose Barker, who grew up nearby at 801 Pine (5BL 8023) in Jefferson Place as the daughter of John
and Emma Barker, married George Albert Hoffmire. He worked as a coal miner. They raised their children in the
original house.
Owners before the Hoffmires were: W. Stevens, who originally acquired Lot 20 from Jefferson Place developer
Charles Welch in 1883; Enoch Walters; L.E. Andrews; George Chambers; Mary Autrey; and the Wattelet family.
The next owners after the Hoffmires were: Wilford Van Donkelaar, and Daniel and Joanne Binkley.
Members of the Vinall family owned the property from 1973 to 2002. It was during the ownership of the property by
Maria Vinall that the current house was constructed in 1991.
In 2002, Maria Vinall sold the property with the new house to Don and Lou Ann Boyle, who owned it until 2007. The
current owner, James Tesone, has owned it since that time. James Tesone is descended from coal miners, but did
not grow up in this house.
Other addresses used for 717 Pine under Louisville's old address system were 413, 415, 437, and 438 Pine. In the
1940 directory, when addresses were in a period of transition, its address was 709 Pine.
36.
