Resource Number: 5BL11325
Temporary Resource Number: 157508405012
In 1944, Dominic Buffo suffered a severe injury due to a mining accident at the Columbine Mine. According to a
copy of a 1946 workman's claim for compensation to the Industrial Commission of Colorado, located in the files
of the Louisville Historical Museum, the nature of his disability was that his right arm was amputated, his right
side was partially paralyzed, and he could no longer speak.
In 1954, Dominic and Lillian Buffo transferred the Lot 17 and part of Lot 18, which was the side yard to 709
Walnut, to their son and daughter-in-law, William and Betty Buffo, so that they could build a house next door
and live there and help provide care for Dominic Buffo due to his ongoing disability. According to Mr. William
Buffo, an old 2-room house that was on the site was moved away to make way for the construction of the
current house.
According to online Boulder County Assessor records, 711 Walnut was constructed in 1956. Handwriting on the
1948 Boulder County Assessor's card states that as of December 10, 1956, the house was still not finished and
the years "56 + 57" were indicated. According to the current owner William Buffo, his house at 711 Walnut was
constructed in 1955. It is possible that it had been started by then, but was not completed for purposes of the
County until 1956 or 1957.
William and Betty Buffo lived at 711 Walnut since the house was constructed in the mid 1950s. Mr. Buffo
passed away in 2012. Mrs. Buffo is still the owner.
36.
