Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 20, 2008
Muckle stated her preference for the design based on the false front of the Rex Theatre
She stated she liked using the authentic details of a site that is still standing. She asked
if a font could be chosen that was also specifically found on a Louisville building.
Koertje stated his preference for the miner image as it is readily identifiable with
Louisville. He asked how/where additional text could be added about the specific
property on which the plaques are to be posted.
Lewis agreed that additional factual information about the sites would be helpful. She
stated her opinion that both the miner and false front designs speak to Louisville
successfully.
Muckle asked if a photo of the historic building could be added or etched with the site
specific information.
Tofte expressed her preference for the false front image.
Whiteman agreed with Lewis that the miner and the false front were the most successful.
He stated that that the false front design might be a bit large for posting to a house.
Clark stated that all of the options could be resized and a different font chosen if the
Commission would like.
Koertje asked what options there might be for materials for the plaques.
Berquist stated that there are a variety of options regarding materials depending on how
much the Commission can to spend on the plaques.
Lewis stated she would like a solid metal plaque material that also included site specific
information without a photo.
Muckle stated her preference to see the miner used on the future mine marker signs and
use a building on landrarking plaques.
After additional discussion, members agreed to move forward with the false front design
but to incorporate more specific details from the Rex Theatre facade on the plaque and
have space included for additional text about the specific building.
Clark and Berquist will submit an updated draft to the HPC for consideration at the
November meeting.
Subcommittee Reports
Old Town Historic District - No report
Community Outreach - No report
Incentives - Koertje stated he was still gathering information and he will continue to
work on this regardless of the results of ballot issue 2A.
